2015 Canned Food DriveIt is time to start planning the 45th Annual Hauser Can Food Drive! If you’re interested in helping on a committee for this year, you’re invited to come to the planning kick-off meeting being held Tuesday, January 19th at 7:00pm in the Hauser Cafeteria. This is such a positive event for our students and community, but collecting around 25,000 cans of food is also a huge undertaking! There are lots of ways to help…big, small, during the day or in the evening. The more help we have, the better. Please consider getting involved. Any questions, contact Lisa Gaynor @ ltgaynor@aol.com or Lisa Freel @ lisa.freel24@gmail.com

Final Food Drive Update… All the cans have been counted for a grand total of 24,622 cans!  What an incredible effort by all.  Once again, your contributions will make a huge difference for many Englewood families.

And the winner is……7th Grade with a grand total of 8,637 cans followed by 6th grade with 7,909 and the 8th grade with 5,476.   Congratulations 7th grade – they can come and enjoy their “Hauser Night” prize (an hour of fun and games with their classmates) on May 15th.  The evening’s details will be communicated next week.

Congratulations to all the students and volunteers on a job well done!

Special thanks to our chairwomen, Lisa Gaynor and Lisa Freel, for all their hard work.  And to our drivers who transported and unpacked the food we purchased with the cash donations – Becky Anderson, Mary Smith, Matia Marcucci, and Laura Rubio… THANK YOU!!

April 2015 First Friday Feature – Canned Food Drive

1st fridayThis month’s First Friday Feature focuses on a longstanding Hauser tradition that’s been 43 years in the making – our annual canned food drive, benefitting the Salvation Army.

Hauser has earned a tremendous reputation for generosity over the last 43 years, serving as the number one collector of food in Illinois.  Our school community has collected and donated over 1,600,000 non-perishable items to the food pantry to date, with over 70,000 food items donated last year!

The Salvation Army’s Red Shield food pantry located in Chicago’s Englewood neighborhood is the recipient of our collection, and Hauser’s efforts sustain hundreds of families for six months.

The Salvation Army is counting on Hauser to fill the shelves again this year.  They will be dropping PODS in the Hauser parking lot for us to fill.  Please help Hauser “Pack the PODS” to capacity!

Food collection will take place on the following dates and times:

  • Friday, April 10th from 7:15am-8:45am
  • Monday – Friday, April 13-17th from 7:15am-8:45am
  • Saturday, April 18th from 9am- noon
  • Two drop off locations. Tables located by front entrance on school days (small quantities) and PODs located behind Hauser.  Please use band drop off lane.

This year, the three grades will compete to bring in the most donations, with a celebration for the winning grade in early May.  We thank you, the families of Riverside, North Riverside, Brookfield and Lyons in advance for your continued support of one of Hauser’s oldest traditions.

If you prefer to make a monetary donation, you can either send a check or cash to the Hauser office (checks made payable to Hauser PTO) or click on the link below and use cheddar to make a payment with a credit card or PayPal account.

Have a great Friday.
